"It’s very good to see a wine that has been kept back and released when the maker thinks right. Nine years old seems an age, but we should remember we drink most wine before it’s reached its full potential. This has the old wine smell that many wine drinkers (I suspect) are not familiar with: fine old polish and dusty bookshops come to mind, both pleasurable in their own right. The palate is tart dark fruits with the drying tannins making it really interesting. The finish is long and memorable."

"A long, firm, stable and slowly maturing wine of longevity and structure. Handsomely oaked, but an older style, it sports a sweet, fiery bouquet of concentrated blood plums, cassis, raspberries, sweet cedar/vanilla oak backed by nuances of chocolates, leathery, spice and white pepper. Smooth and polished, its juicy, intensely flavoured palate of bright, brambly cassis blackberry and redcurrant flavour is matched with smoky vanilla oak and framed by a firm, rod-like spine of powdery tannin. It holds its alcohol well and reflects a very even quality of ripeness for the 2003 vintage."
